The conscientious Minister for External Affairs
Lalit Modi is a very creative person. His various stints in State cricket and the BCCI have showcased his creativity. The IPL is a testament to his positive creativity. And of course, he has been hounded by authorities in India for being too creative with funds and finances.
So we are saddened when the wife of such a creative man has cancer and requires surgery. When such a creative man approaches the MEA for help in procuring travel documents in the UK we have to wonder what else is being facilitated. Creativity cannot be suppressed and so it is with Lalit Modi. Within two days of procuring documents to attend his wife surgery in Portugal he was sending vacation photographs from a resort.
But the MEA knew that this is a creative man. An enterprising man. A risk taker. Why take personal interest in such a case? This is a wealthy and powerful man. This is not a person that requires Government help...as the Prime Minister has said: the Government is for those that cannot fight for themselves.
So, the question for Ms. Swaraj stands: Why did you get personally involved? Why didn't you allow Lalit Modi to be served through normal channels?
